Freezing temperatures are expected to hit parts of Alabama later this week, creating a chance for snow and ice. Cruise control is a great way to increase your miles per gallon and maintain a safe and steady speed, but it should never be used when there’s a chance your vehicle will lose traction. If you’re driving in snow, ice, or freezing rain, turn off cruise control and maintain your speed manually.
- If your tires lose traction, take your foot off the gas and let your vehicle coast to a stop. If your tires lose traction while driving on icy or slick roads, your brakes also may be less effective. Instead of relying solely on your brakes, ease off the accelerator and let your vehicle begin to slow naturally before braking.
