Birmingham Attorneys Discuss $1.2 Million in Alabama Highway Safety Grants

Birmingham Attorneys Discuss $1.2 Million in Alabama Highway Safety Grants

by Norris Injury Lawyers | October 13th, 2015

Preventing motor vehicle accidents is a top priority in Alabama. That’s why the Birmingham car accident attorneys at Norris Injury Lawyers are excited to learn that the state will receive more than $1 million in grants to improve highway safety.

Northwest Georgia News reports that the funds will be used to support campaigns to address speeding, drunk driving, and seat belt use. The grants will also provide the money necessary to pay officers overtime during campaigns such as “Click It or Ticket” or sobriety checkpoints.

The funding is provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and will be distributed by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.

While these campaigns will help raise awareness about safety on the road, preventing accidents starts with choices made behind the wheel. That’s why the Birmingham personal injury attorneys at Norris Injury Lawyers encourage you to take these steps towards vehicle safety:

  • Buckle Up– Wearing a seat belt will reduce your chances of injury or death in the event of an accident, so make sure you wear one. Also, wear a seat belt across the shoulder and lap to avoid injuries.
  • Drive Sober- Alcohol is involved in roughly one-third of all fatal Alabama car accidents. That’s why you should never drink and drive. Instead, call a safe and sober ride to get you home.
  • Slow Down- Speeding is another leading cause of serious motor vehicle collisions. Obey posted speed limits along the roads you’re traveling.
