You did the right thing after your accident and called a lawyer. Now what do you do? I’d love to say simply sit back and wait for the settlement check to come in, but it’s not that simple. This is a collaborative effort between our firm and you. We have the same goal (getting you paid for your injuries), and we each have a part to play in realizing that goal.

Here are a few things you can do to help us get you maximum compensation for your claim:

  • Provide us with all accident-related medical expenses. Over the next several months, you will be receiving a lot of medical treatment. From physical therapy to routine doctor visits, this treatment is key to getting you back on your feet again. Make sure you document every medical expense and provide that documentation to your lawyer. We will seek reimbursement from the insurance company for all of it: medical bills, drugs prescribed, and even transportation expenses.
  • Document your lost wages. One of the most frustrating and costly aspects of a serious accident is the victim’s inability to work. That inability can put your family in a tough financial situation, sometimes leading to bankruptcy. Document all your lost wages carefully. This includes any work offered to you that you can’t take on due to your injuries.
  • Describe the accident’s impact on your life. If your case goes to court, it’s important that the jury know how this accident has negatively impacted both you and your family. Throughout your recovery process, write out a detailed account of your experiences in a journal or on your computer. This will paint a picture of what you’ve been through beyond the facts we present.

As your law firm, we’re going to do everything within our power to get you the compensation you deserve for your injuries, but it’s important that you do your part as well. Together we can work to put this accident behind you.
