An Alabama car accident was responsible for killing a 17-year-old teen from Silas and injuring two others early yesterday morning. An article from reports that the accident occurred just before 7:30 a.m. along US Highway 84 in Choctaw County.

Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook stated that a 21-year-old man from Nashville was operating a 1998 Pontiac sedan carrying the victim and another 37-year-old passenger. The car was hit from behind by a 2001 Freightliner tractor-trailer operated by a man from Quitman, Mississippi.

The impact killed the teenage victim at the scene. Rescue crews transported the driver of the Pontiac, along with the other female passenger, to a hospital for care.

Troopers say they are continuing to look into the cause of the accident and say charges may be filed pending the outcome of a full investigation.

The Department of Transportation estimates that roughly 5,000 lives are lost in a total of around 500,000 truck accidents each year. These numbers may begin to increase as revenues from the transportation industry are expected to double by 2015.
