Alabama Mesothelioma Lawsuit Moving Forward

Alabama Mesothelioma Lawsuit Moving Forward

by Norris Injury Lawyers | September 16th, 2014

Asbestos is used as an insulator and fire retardant substance in a variety of industries. But exposure to asbestos can come with a price, as it has been linked to a deadly cancer called mesothelioma.

Workers who develop mesothelioma as the result of on-the-job exposure to asbestos may be eligible for compensation. But are non-employees exposed to asbestos entitled to compensation?

These questions have been brought before an Alabama court and, so far, the answer is yes. According to an article from The National Law Journal, the widow of a worker who died from mesothelioma filed a claim alleging that she came into contact with asbestos by washing her husband’s clothes each day for 22 years.

The case will move forward through the state’s court system, as U.S. District Court Judge Lynwood Smith found there was enough evidence to establish that the asbestos exposure from washing clothes was causation for her mesothelioma.

At Norris Injury Lawyers, our team of Birmingham personal injury attorneys has seen the devastating results mesothelioma can have on families. That’s why we are hopeful a decision in this case will help bring closure to the family of the victim.
