Dangerous Levels of Asbestos Found in Children’s Toys
July 28th, 2015|
Exposure to asbestos is linked to a deadly form of cancer called mesothelioma. As many as 25 million Americans were exposed to Asbestos between 1940 and 1970. Many citizens are still exposed to the substance today, as few laws regulate the use of asbestos.
The latest risk of exposure comes from children’s toys. According to Asbestos Nation, researchers found asbestos fibers in crayons and crime scene toys manufactured in China. Environmental Working Group, a safety watchdog group, purchased and tested the toys between February and May through three nationwide retailers.
Of the 28 types of crayons that were tested, four were found to contain asbestos. Researchers also showed that two of the 21 fingerprint kits contained asbestos as well. As many as one million fibers of toxic asbestos were found in each of the positive tests.
