A Huntsville contract worker at Redstone Arsenal was seriously injured following a work-related accident. WSFA 12 News, the incident occurred on Oct. 16 around 8 a.m. inside the Aviation and Missile Research and Development Center.

Reports indicate that the worker, employed by Dynetics, was handling a small explosive device when it went off without warning. The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he underwent immediate corrective surgery. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery from the he sustained.

This was not the first accident the facility has experienced that resulted in serious injuries. In May 2010, two workers were killed following a similar explosion at a demolition site. It was determined that willful violations caused the Wrongful Deaths of both men and lawsuits were filed.

The Birmingham branch of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, along with the company’s Military Police Unit and other experts, are each conducting a full investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the explosion and if it could have been prevented.

The Huntsville Personal Injury Attorneys with Norris Injury Lawyers believe employers have a responsibility to provide a safe work environment for each of its employees to do their job and that failure to do so could be considered negligence in the event of a work-related accident.
