When someone is killed in a motor vehicle accident, the family of the victim may be able to hold the responsible party liable for damages. The Birmingham Wrongful Death Lawyers with Norris Injury Lawyers point out that one man has taken legal action in response to the loss of his stepdaughter in a car accident last year.
An article from The Tuscaloosa News explains that at around 1 a.m. on Sept. 30, 2012, the 19-year-old victim was a passenger in a 2004 Nissan Altima being driven by a 25-year-old man. Reports indicate the vehicle was traveling at around 70 mph along Jackson Trace Road, which has a 45 mph speed limit, when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Altima overturned and struck a parked vehicle, killing the young passenger.
An investigation into the crash determined the driver had been drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana prior to the accident.
The victim’s stepfather later filed suit against the driver, claiming his negligence behind the wheel was responsible for the loss of his loved one. The lawsuit is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
Norris Injury Lawyers and their team of Birmingham Personal Injury Lawyers are aware of how devastating the loss of a loved one can be, and they are hopeful a decision in the case brings closure to the family of the victim.
