Home / Blog / Pay Attention to These Vehicle Warning Signs.

The best ways to prevent an auto accident are to drive carefully and to always follow all traffic laws. However, if your vehicle malfunctions while you’re on the road, your risk of being involved in a crash can increase significantly—even if you’re always a safe and cautious driver.

Thankfully, modern vehicles are equipped with many safety features and warning systems that are designed to alert drivers when something goes wrong. These range from reminders to fill up the gas tank to emergency lights that indicate when the vehicle needs immediate maintenance or repairs.

Two warning lights that all drivers should pay attention to for their safety include:

  • Airbag Fault – Along with seat belts, airbags are one of the most important safety features in your vehicle, as they protect drivers and passengers from serious injuries during accidents. An activated airbag fault light means your vehicle’s airbags may be malfunctioning—which means one or more may not deploy during an accident.
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) – All new vehicles manufactured in the U.S. after August 2007 are required to have TPMS warning lights installed. These lights indicate that a tire’s air pressure is low, which can lead to blowouts and serious accidents.
  • ESP Fault – This light indicates that there’s a problem with the vehicle’s traction control, anti-skid, or electronic stability system, all of which help drivers stay in control during potential accident-causing situations.

You should always keep a close eye on your vehicle’s condition. In addition to checking emergency lights, you should also regularly inspect your vehicle’s tires and test its headlights, hazard lights, brake lights, and turn signals.
