Defective Car Parts Result in More General Motors Recalls

by Staff Blogger | May 6th, 2014

There are countless factors that can contribute to Birmingham car accidents, but one of the most preventable causes is defective vehicle equipment. Each year, hundreds of thousands of vehicles are recalled to correct these problems, but for many, the recall is too little, too late.

Take the cases of more than two dozen motorists who crashed their vehicles as a result of a faulty gear shifter. According to an article from FOX 6 News, General Motors recently announced that the gear shifter in an estimated 60,000 Saturn Aura vehicles may not show what gear the vehicle is in correctly. The problem has been attributed to a total of 28 crashes that resulted in four motorists suffering injuries.

GM knew about the problem for more than two years, but only made minimal efforts to correct the problem. In Nov. 2011, the company announced the affected vehicles would be subject to an extended warranty, but made no efforts to recall or correct the problem in the vehicles.

Motorists with an affected vehicle should take the car to a certified dealer to have the problem corrected. If you’ve been injured by an automotive defect, the Birmingham personal injury attorneys with Norris Injury Lawyers suggest speaking with a legal professional about your rights to compensation.
