When a person’s death is the result of another individual’s negligence, the family of the victim may seek compensation by filing civil litigation against the responsible party. The Birmingham Wrongful Death Lawyers with Norris Injury Lawyers explain several wrongful death cases have been filed against an Alabama gas company and the Housing Authority of Birmingham after a gas line rupture led to a fatal building explosion last month.
According to an article from ABC 33/40 News, the incident occurred on Dec. 17, 2013 at Marks Village in Gate City, Alabama. Reports indicate residents of the building had reported smelling natural gas for several days prior to the explosion, but were told not to be concerned by housing authority officials. Residents were told to call a number if the smell did not go away.
Then, a leak from the 2-inch ruptured causing a blast that leveled the building. The blast claimed several lives and left dozens injured.
Now, the victims are filing suit, claiming the gas company and housing authority not only failed to properly follow up on their complaints, but also failed to properly maintain the building’s gas lines.
Norris Injury Lawyers and their team of Birmingham Personal Injury Attorneys are are hopeful a decision in the case helps brings closure to the victims of the explosion and their families.
